We will train to your timeline and needs

Learning to dive includes three parts, an online knowledge development phase, a pool diving phase, and an open water phase.
| 1 |
As part of your Open Water (OW) Certification, you will complete online learning which is a combination of reading, watching videos about diving and skills, knowledge reviews for each chapter and a final test. The online learning takes about 9-10 hours to complete at your own pace. We recommend you complete the online learning before beginning the pool dives because your understanding of scuba diving is more thorough, and it makes diving easier. You cannot proceed to open water diving until the online learning is complete.

In the pool phase, you will learn to assemble and disassemble gear, either yours or ours. Gear use is included for OW students at S and W Diving. In a series of five pool dives, students will master the skills necessary for scuba diving; complete a timed float and a 200-meter swim. Students also learn skin diving (snorkeling) skills. Usually our time in the pool lasts 6-8 hours. S and W Diving is unique, because we go at your speed. With small classes and flexible schedules, students work individually with an instructor until you to master scuba skills.

The final phase of OW certification takes place in Beaver Lake. We can arrange other locations at an additional cost. During the Open Water dives students will practice and demonstrate the skills they learned in the pool as well as learn to plan dives, navigate underwater, deploy signaling devices, and practice buddy skills. Students complete four open water dives with their instructor. Commonly we complete three dives on day #1 and one dive on day #2. Weather conditions or student schedules can change the standard plan.
On open water days we supply lunch, water and snacks. Remember to bring your gear, a lawn or camping chair, a towel, a dry shirt, and sunscreen.
